Invasive Species

Longmeadow residents are advised to be on the lookout for invasive species on their property.  Purple Loosestrife, Water Chestnut and Phragmites appear primarily in the floodplain.  However, Japanese Knotweed and Asiatic Bittersweet have been observed in multiple locations in town.  Japanese Knotweed should be controlled because it overtakes an area and can destroy foundations, driveways and sidewalks.  Bittersweet encircles tree trunks and places excessive weight on the tops of trees.  Click on the links below for more information.
