 Community House
Built in 1921, the Community House is often chosen as a nostalgic venue for various community events. While the building itself is in need of several cosmetic updates, it gives one a feeling of taking a step through time, upon entering. Many long-time Longmeadow residents share with us their memories of watching movies and attending dances in this building. While the ticket booths built into the front foyer and balcony area upstairs are rarely, if ever, used, one can easily visualize “the way it was”. The facility boasts a large auditorium with stage, kitchen, and restroom on the main floor. The Parks & Recreation Department main office shares this level of the building, also. Upstairs, balcony seating for up to 200 and the Parks & Recreation Dance Studio occupy that space. In the basement level are multi-stall men’s and women’s restrooms, Meeting Room A, and the Finance and Board of Health offices.
Main Auditorium
This classic, “days of old” function room was, at one time long ago, used for town meetings and hearings. Wide open, airy space also boasts a stage complete with sound hookup & lighting and a pull down movie screen, plus access to both stage sides via back entrances, making it ideal for speaking engagements, small recitals or festive, private gatherings involving a DJ or other performer. The room itself will comfortably seat 125, auditorium style, or 100, banquet style. Use the old balcony, which is included with this room, and seat an additional 200+ (children not allowed in the balcony, please!). Two entrances, plus another rear entrance through the connected kitchen, make this space even more appealing to renters with varied needs.
Rear Auditorium
Separated from the main auditorium by a fabric partition, the rear auditorium is perfect for small parties or large meetings. It comfortably seats 75, auditorium style, or 60, banquet style. One entrance, closest to the restroom, makes this an appealing space for smaller functions. Use of the kitchen while using this space is, unfortunately, not available.
Full Auditorium
Spread out! Why limit yourself to the confines of the main auditorium, when you can have the whole thing? Add on the rear auditorium to accommodate up to 250 guests, auditorium style, or 200, banquet style. Don’t forget: the balcony for additional back-up seating is included! Three entrances, glorious light flooding in from several windows, and zone-controlled lighting all await you for a truly comfortable event.
Kitchen
The kitchen is available at an additional flat rate for renters of the main or full auditorium only, due to its proximity to the auditorium area. A generously sized double oven with 6-burner range and griddle cook top are sure to satisfy your food preparation needs. Of course the double-basin sink is extremely helpful, as well as two stainless steel work surfaces. The kitchen has two convenient entrances: one through the auditorium on the right of the stage, and the other at the rear of the Community House. Renters are responsible for supplying all of their own cookware and cleaning supplies, and as with our other facilities, the kitchen and all appliances are to be returned to the condition in which they were found.
Meeting Room A
This intimate space is a carpeted meeting room furnished with a conference table and 8 chairs, perfect for small meetings, and for those who do not require ADA compliant facilities, as this room is located in the basement level of the Community House. Fully enclosed room is a good location for meetings needing more privacy than the rear auditorium can provide.
