Mary Hannigan, CPRP, M.Ed, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation
Mary grew up in Springfield in the Forest Park section of the city and attended Cathedral High School and went onto Springfield College and graduated with a B.A. and M.Ed with a concentration in Recreation and Leisure Services. She most recently lived in North Stonington, CT for the past 25 years where she was employed by Groton Parks & Recreation Department as a Recreation Supervisor since 2000. Her responsibilities included grant administration for the Real Choices Grant that empowered people living with a disability to make choices in their everyday lives concerning health care, transportation, recreation, housing and education. Among the other areas of concentration with Groton Parks & Recreation was the Summer Playground Program for children ages 3 12, trips, special events, languages, youth fitness programs and pre-school activities. Prior to that, she was employed by the Town of North Stonington as Recreation Director and Senior Center Director. Responsibilities included providing a comprehensive program for all ages, abilities and interests for the citizens of North Stonington and also as the Municipal Agent for the Elderly in North Stonington.
Mary has been busy raising her two sons. Timothy is attending University of New Haven in New Haven, CT as Biology major and Matthew is attending Norwich University in Northfield, VT in the Corps of Cadets program. In her spare time, she enjoys sewing and doing crafts and has made over 500 different stuffed animals and dolls that have been sold at shops in the Groton area. Mary is extremely happy to be back in Western Massachusetts closer to family.
