Creative Crafts Corner
After School Art Program at Wolf Swamp Road School for Grades 2-5 V
Children will have the opportunity to roll up their sleeves as they explore their creativity and develop skills in drawing, sketching, sculpting and other crafts.Participants will have the opportunity to experiment with different mediums and learn various techniques in both short and long term projects. Petite Pollocks for Ages 3-7
Art is a great way for self expression, learning, building self confidence and teaching social skills. Children will explore multiple art mediums and enjoy messy projects. Each class will feature several open-ended art projects. The projects are designed to foster your child’s creativity and self esteem. The children will engage in individual work and group projects. All materials are included. Projects will be messy, so please dress appropriately. Your instructor, Lauren Casey has been a pre-school teacher for nine years and has an art history background.

World Music Hand Drumming Classes -Ages 7-12
Try your hand at world music and drumming from around the world with cultural educator, drummer, singer and Gaia Roots Co-founder Aimee Gelinas M.Ed. This dynamic, hands on participatory class focuses on folkloric and contemporary Afro-Caribbean, West African, Middle Eastern and European drumming, percussion and singing. Students will learn basic hand and instrument techniques, an understanding of how drum patterns fit together, the cultural contest of the music, fun and challenging drum patterns and exercises, accompanying songs in many languages and the opportunity to develop, arrange and perform finale presentations. Traditional instruments such as the Congo, Djembe, Djun Djun, Clave, Bell, Shekere, Darbuka/Dumpek, Bodhran and more provided for student use. Beginner Guitar Lessons for Ages 8-15
Do you think the guitar may be right for you? Enroll in Tom Kopyto’s Beginning Guitar and find out! Beginning Guitar is a 6 week course designed to introduce basic guitar playing to beginners with no previous music study needed.

Essential guitar skills and basic note-reading are taught in a fun, supportive setting that allows students to develop at their own pace. Classes are formed by age group and class materials are flexible to accommodate the interests of each class group. The class is taught by guitar instructor Tom Kopyto, who has more than 15 years of experience teaching private lessons and group lessons. Tom has studied at Berklee College of Music and Roosevelt University.

Mad Science
Fun and exciting science activities will be coming this fall to Longmeadow through the Mad Science After School Enrichment Programs. These classes are designed to spark children’s imaginations and show them that learning can be fun and exciting! They offer students a mix of hands-on activities and spectacular demonstrations of a wide variety of scientific principles. This season we will be running a 12 week program that “EXPLORES INNER AND OUTER SPACE. Topics include Rocket Science, Space Technology, Living in Space, Sun and Stars, Planets and Moons, Atmosphere and Beyond Space Phenomena, Space Travel, Earthworks, Mad Science Machines, Walloping Weather and Get Connected. Let’s Gogh Art’s - Around the World Creativity Tour for Grades K-5
Awesome Art-ventures around the world. Children create their own wooden airplane or hot air balloon to take them up and away! Each week we land somewhere in the world and create a wicked cool cultural craft. In Puerto Rico we work with clay and make a wacky Vejigante mask. We design with Mosaics in Greece, make Tribal Rain Sticks in Australia, and create Maracas in Brazil. We incorporate concepts of geography, culture, history, music and humor in the fun series of 7 workshops. No class on Nov. 24.

Let’s Gogh Art’s - Art-ventures for a Smiling Earth for Grades K-5
During these 8 fun and resourceful “goghing” green workshops, students create a variety of original works of art from natural and recycled materials. Design earth friendly fabric totes for groceries, use bubble wrap to print T-shirts, or create a mosaic mask with beans, peas and pasta. Jewelry from tin foil, mosaic frames from CDs, or cool cuffs from plastic bottles are just a few of the works of art created during these entertaining and educational workshops.

Concepts of recycling and using our natural resources in more effective ways are discussed. Masterpieces go home each week and materials are included in the fee. No class on Feb. 21.
